A press release signed by
the MART Group’s Clinical Coordinator, Mrs Biola Adewusi, said the event took
place on June 16 in Lagos.
A Professor of Reproductive
Endocrinology and Group Medical Director, MART Group of Clinics, Oladapo
Ashiru, has been awarded the coveted African Child Prize Award for Discovery in
Science and Innovation.
The event was organised by
the African Child Foundation, which is a growing community of young African
leaders who are passionate about humanitarian services.
Ashiru, who gave Africa its
first IVF baby, was awarded the prize after a rigorous process, the release
said.
The awards body said it
identified with the world-acclaimed Ashiru’s accomplishments, especially in the
area of setting a new agenda for Africa, with his pioneering spirit in the
field of health care.
In his enviable citation,
the awarding body notes that, “Ashiru was appointed the youngest professor in
the field of medicine in Africa at the age of 32, and he has over 40-year
experience in the treatment of infertility and reproductive endocrinology.
“He has also led several
pioneering breakthroughs in medical science, including first test tube baby
research, and first sickle-cell-free baby pre-implantation genetic testing.
“He had pioneered the use
of Modern Mayr Medicine therapy in Africa, among many other achievements.”
While receiving the award,
Ashiru thanked the African Child Foundation for the honour, while he dedicated
the award to his team at the MART Group for their professionalism, care and
dedication in the discharge of their respective duties every day.
